Daegu, South Korea – Daegu Middle High School (DMHS) Career and Technical Education (CTE) students participated in an academically enriching study trip to Yeungnam University (YU) in Daegu, South Korea on Nov. 12, 2025.

Organized by DMHS CTE teacher Don Park, this initiative aligned with DMHS’s mission to advance College and Career Readiness and supports the DoDEA Blueprint for Continuous Improvement, emphasizing 21st-century skills and future-ready learners.

Bridging History and Future Readiness

The visit began with a campus tour showcasing YU’s expansive facilities. The first stop, the Folk Village, provided historical insight into traditional Korean educational practices, fostering an appreciation for resilience and transformation—key principles within the DoDEA Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. Students then explored the Science Library and its Smart Learning Lounge, equipped with advanced digital resources and collaborative spaces. Exposure to English-language scientific texts encouraged global perspectives and academic inquiry.

Immersion in Technology, AI, and Career Pathways

Central to the experience was a lecture on Software and Artificial Intelligence within YU’s IT Department. Students engaged with university peers to learn foundational AI concepts and advanced computing processes. This authentic learning opportunity linked directly to STEM career pathways and served as a Tier 1 academic intervention, sparking curiosity and promoting self-directed skill development. Lunch in the university cafeteria further enriched cultural exchange and campus life immersion.

Global Development, Sustainability, and Resilience

The final segment focused on sustainability and global citizenship. Faculty at the Saemaeul Major and Department introduced Korea’s economic transformation and its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through interactive discussions on poverty alleviation and community resilience, students deepened their understanding of international development and social responsibility—critical components of the DoDEA Blueprint’s well-being pillar.

The study trip provided real-world context for 21st Century Skills and strengthened future-ready learning through interaction and innovation. Students gained insight into Korean university life, and the global importance of sustainability and technology. DMHS looks forward to continuing to provide these powerful, real-world learning opportunities that inspire our students to become successful 21st Century citizens and future innovators.

Marketing Class Research and Presentation

On Nov. 25, 2025, the DMHS Marketing class extended this learning through a research-based project. Students worked in five collaborative groups to design marketing strategies for Yeungnam University, including slogans and advertisements inspired by their observations. Presentations were evaluated on research quality, content, delivery, teamwork, and creativity. This culminating activity transformed experiential learning into a professional product, reinforcing critical thinking, creativity, and communication while demonstrating how authentic experiences drive applied learning and career readiness.
