Daegu Middle High School and Hyundai Ulsan build sustainable host-nation partnerships through CTE
DAEGU, South Korea – Daegu Middle High School (DMHS) students participated in an immersive study trip to the Hyundai Motors Ulsan Complex on March 17, 2026. This visit marked the second trip to the factory for DMHS, representing a growing partnership between the school and one of the world’s leading automotive manufacturers.
The return visit reflects a broader vision to build sustainable, long-term CTE partnerships with the host nation of South Korea. By moving beyond a one-time tour and establishing a recurring presence at the facility, the DMHS CTE program fosters a deeper cultural and professional exchange that benefits both the students and our local community partners.
The experience began at the Hyundai Motor Cultural Museum, where students explored concept sketches and early prototypes. Seeing how early ideas from 1968 evolved into modern models helped students appreciate the importance of innovation and problem-solving. On the factory floor, students observed:
- Advanced Robotics: Robotic welding arms and automated guided vehicles working in harmony.
- Human Expertise: Highly trained technicians installing electronics and conducting precision quality checks.
- Global Logistics: A tour of the private shipping docks, where thousands of vehicles are staged for international exports
This initiative directly supports DoWEA’s career pathways, which are designed to ensure students are empowered as learners. By offering multiple entry points—from robotics and engineering to business and supply chain management—the trip brought DoWEA’s goals for differentiated learning to life. Students didn't just watch; they engaged with the global economy in an authentic way, asking complex questions about the future of electric vehicles and production efficiency.
To solidify the impact of the experience, the learning continued back at DMHS. Following the trip, students were tasked with developing a culminating presentation. These projects require students to articulate how CTE:
- Prioritizes real-world experiences within the host nation.
- Cultivates transferable job skills—such as systems thinking, cross-cultural professional etiquette, and technical analysis—that are essential for success in any career field.
By witnessing the entire life cycle of a vehicle, DMHS students have connected classroom theory to global reality and strengthening their career readiness.
DoWEA alignment: Goal 1- Strategic Initiative 1.2: Future-Ready Learner — We will expand opportunities to prepare students for college, career, and life, ensuring every student is prepared for the future of their choice.
